Sunday night I woke up with bad back pain and what I thought were braxton hick contractions. It’s safe to say I didn’t get much sleep that night. The next day I woke up with the same pain but not as bad until we were on our way out of town heading towards Tampa for some Skyline (yum!) when everything got much worse and I called the midwife. She immediately sent me to Florida Regional Hospital to get it checked out. They hooked me up to the machines and before we knew it the nurse said that Remmy was perfectly healthy but I was contracting 2-3 minutes apart. We were very surprised but were very thankful when she checked me and said there was no dilation (that’s a good thing). I’m only measuring between 32-33 weeks and the baby would not be perfectly developed if he arrived now. They gave me a shot of terbutaline (a preterm labor drug to stop contractions) every 20 minutes until I stopped contracting. By the way it’s a shot in your arm and OUCH that stuff stings. Anyways, by the second dose my contractions were under control and they said whatever it was they wiped it out of my system and it most likely wouldn’t return. Since they didn’t know what caused me to start contracting they ordered me to bed rest and that was that.
Well, I wish that was the end of the story. Not more than 3 hours later after taking a very restful nap that night I woke up and I started contracting again. I called the midwife and ordered me the pill form of the shot they gave me at the hospital to take every six hours until they figure out what is causing the contractions or until I reach 36 1/2-37 weeks and they will take me off and just let me contract. So that’s the story for now… stay tuned.
Prayers are much needed and greatly apprecaited at this time. Remmy is still perfect as can be and we couldn’t ask for a more healthy baby. Mommy on the other hand needs to learn how to take an easy so I can last the next four weeks bored out of my mind in bed : )
